If you are a detail driven financial professional who takes pride in precision, clarity, and well built systems, this role will give you the depth and ownership you thrive on. As Controller, you will serve as the technical authority who keeps our financial engine accurate, compliant, and scalable. You will manage structured processes, refine reporting tools, and ensure every statement, close, and compliance requirement is exact and reliable. You will work closely with leadership, contribute analytical insight, and guide a small team while staying hands on with the work that demands your expertise. Your mastery will directly strengthen the company’s future.
The Mailworks is a woman-owned, family-run business specializing in results-driven direct mail campaigns for a nationwide client base. With 40+ years of experience and over 90 professionals across strategy, design, production and technology, we combine deep industry knowledge with modern tools to help businesses grow. We produce and deliver 96M+ pieces annually from our in-house facility and are transforming the direct mail space through innovation, service, and our proprietary software platforms.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Direct oversight of the payroll manager, financial consults, and external accounting firm.
Key Responsibilities:

Financial Leadership & Strategy
Financial Operations Execution
Oversee weekly accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, intercompany transactions, and general ledger maintenance. Coordinate with payroll manager on payroll-related matters
Act as daily contact and process any accounting-related urgent items.
Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of all financial statements, budgets, and forecasts.
Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, ensuring deadlines are consistently met
Ensure weekly completion of company scorecard
Oversee sales tax compliance, including ensuring proper collection, reporting, and remittance using Avalara Sales Tax software.
External & Internal Collaboration
Process Improvement & Systems Management
Required Skills/Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred but not required.
6+ years in progressively responsible accounting or finance roles, including leadership experience.
Mastery of accounting principles, financial reporting, and compliance.
Proficiency in QuickBooks Online, MS Excel, Google Sheets, and accounting systems.
Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Commitment to confidentiality and integrity in handling sensitive financial data.

Establishes a best-in-class finance department that supports growth and scalability.
Provides timely, accurate, and actionable financial insights to the leadership team.
Improves efficiency in financial processes, resulting in measurable time and cost savings.
Ensures all compliance requirements, including sales tax, are met without error or penalty.
Builds strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external financial partners.
