Equipment Specialist

Reports To: Shift Supervisor

  • 1st shift: 5:00 am – 1:30 pm
  • 2nd shift: 1:30 pm to 10 pm
Hours
  • 1st Shift: 4:30am – 3:00pm
  • 2nd shift: 2:45pm – 1:15pm

Compensation: 

$25.50/hr, plus all applicable overtime as required by law, and machine differential as mastered

We produce and deliver 96M+ pieces annually from our in-house facility and are transforming the direct mail space through innovation, service, and our proprietary software platforms.

The Equipment Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and seamless operation of all equipment on the production floor. This position involves mastering equipment, covering shifts to maintain production continuity, leveraging equipment expertise to enhance efficiency, training of operators, and actively collaborating with management to optimize workflow processes. The Equipment Specialist’s versatility, knowledge, and proactive approach are essential for promoting smooth operations and driving continuous improvement within the production facility.

Duties:

EQUIPMENT MASTERY

  • Learn and understand the operation and troubleshooting of all equipment on the production floor pertaining to assigned production track
  • Perform machine operations to assist in meeting production deadlines
  • Run equipment at expected speed outputs while adhering to quality standards
  • Troubleshoot, fix & adjust machinery when necessary
  • Perform machine setups based on product type following company procedures
  • Sort finished product according to USPS regulations – sort, tie, tray
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines, regulations, and protocols while operating equipment and performing duties

ENSURE QUALITY STANDARDS

  • Adhere to company uniform standards
  • Work with other co-workers in a positive, teamwork environment
  • Perform quality control checks and operator sign offs for all equipment assigned to track during normal shift hours
  • Collaborate with management to improve and follow company quality control standards and procedures to ensure accurate completion
  • Detect & report defective materials or copy
  • Ensure that all equipment usage and maintenance practices align with industry standards and regulatory requirements
  • Follow quality control procedures to ensure accurate completion
  • Follow company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

SUPPORT PRODUCTION OBJECTIVES

  • Rotate to necessary equipment or work station as needed by Management to support the production schedule
  • Report any preventive machine maintenance needed to Director of Production
  • If unable to fix equipment independently, report equipment maintenance
  • Maintain availability to cover shifts as required, ensuring uninterrupted production during staffing shortages or emergencies
  • Make daily rounds of all equipment and operators in assigned track providing ongoing assistance as needed to keep machines online and producing at required output levels

OPERATOR DEVELOPMENT & ENHANCEMENT

  • Utilize in-depth equipment knowledge to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Collaborate with relevant teams to implement changes that enhance equipment performance and overall production efficiency
  • Work closely with management, production supervisors, and cross-functional teams to understand workflow requirements and challenges
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives and projects aimed at enhancing equipment reliability, production efficiency, and overall operations
  • Host training kick off meetings properly setting training expectations and requirements
  • Cross-train and onboard operators on assigned equipment following all process outlined in HR and Production Process Manuals
  • Conduct all final exams for all trainees within scheduled time assigned with a pass or fail rating
  • Educate operators on equipment enabling them to operate at a mastery level on their own
  • Ensure all operators are training according to The Mailworks SOPs 
  • Work with management to identify operator issues and proactively correct
  • Ensure that training and onboarding milestones are met with documentation along the way
  • Communicate training status professionally and productively within required deadlines

  • Maintains a positive Employee Performance Log and adheres to company policy. 
  • Demonstrates reliability and adheres to Production Attendance Policy.
  • Understands company workflow as outlined in the Production Process Manual and maintains current knowledge of all supporting Standard Operating Procedures 
  • Produces high quality work at expected outputs, across all machines
  • Supports the overall objectives of Production Management and is a positive team player
  • Obtains Mastery level on each machine contained in assigned production track
  • Enhance production efficiency, measured through a decrease in weekly overtime hours.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to regularly communicate, converse and exchange information with both other employees and management. This position requires the employee to constantly position oneself to maintain, and improve the workflow of the production floor. This position requires the employee to constantly stand. This position requires that the employee be able to lift objects up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to machine vibrations, moving mechanical parts, and a loud work environment.
